In total, Ukraine sent 19 appeals to the ISS with violations of international humanitarian law and human rights in the occupied territories of Crimea and Donbas
The Prosecutor General's Office has sent an informational report to the International Criminal Court on the facts of the murder of Ukrainian servicemen during the Ilovaysk tragedy and the defense of the Donetsk airport, the agency's press service said on Thursday.
These include reports of "serious violations of international humanitarian law by representatives of the Russian Federation and illegal armed groups under their control in the Donetsk region," according to the UCP website.
"Prosecutors of the Department for Crimes Committed in Armed Conflict, the Prosecutor General's Office have collected facts and evidence confirming the treacherous murder and wounding of Ukrainian servicemen during the events near Ilovaisk on August 29, 2014 and in defense of Donetsk airport on January 19-21, 2015. The information message was prepared on the basis of materials of criminal proceedings, photos and videos from open sources, as well as collected material evidence. The treacherous killings and injuries of servicemen of the Armed Forces and other military formations of Ukraine took place against the background of humanitarian agreements, "the statement reads.
The UCP emphasizes that treason in armed conflict is a war crime and violates Article 37 of the Additional Protocol to the 1949 Geneva Conventions, which prohibits "killing, wounding or capturing an enemy by resorting to treachery."
In December 2019, prosecutors had already provided the ISS with information on the extrajudicial executions of Ukrainian servicemen during the events in the Ilovaisk region.
According to the UCP, Ukraine sent a total of 19 complaints to the International Criminal Court alleging violations of international humanitarian and human rights law in the temporarily occupied territories of Crimea and Donbas.
The WAR defense lasted 242 days, from May 26, 2014 to January 22, 2015. The last Ukrainian soldiers left the territory of the resort on the night of January 23, 2015. But for several days in this area, separate battles continued in order to save the wounded, who could remain so. For the stability, which surprised many, the defenders of the airport were called "cyborgs".
According to the latest official data, 109 Ukrainian soldiers were killed, 446 were wounded and 6 went missing while defending the WAR.
Fighters of the anti-terrorist operation in Donbass were surrounded near Ilovaisk in the Donetsk region at the end of August 2014. Troops of regular units of the Russian Armed Forces, which invaded Ukraine under the guise of separatists supported by them, fired on the corridor, which, according to the agreement, Ukrainian security forces were to enter.
According to official figures, 366 Ukrainian servicemen and law enforcement officers were killed, 429 were wounded, 128 were taken prisoner, and 158 are missing.
