The Ministry of Health explained when it is forbidden to prescribe antibiotics to patients with covid

The Ministry of Health has approved new changes to Treatment protocol COVID-19.

In particular, updated recommendations for the use of antibiotics for patients with mild to moderate disease, reports UP.

Deputy Minister of Health Iryna Sadovyak spoke about the innovations.

According to her, it is forbidden to prescribe antibacterial drugs for prophylactic purposes.

We remind you that patients with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 with a mild course of the disease are forbidden to prescribe antibacterial drugs for prophylactic purposes, - said Sadovyak.

As for the severe course of the disease, the patient needs antibiotics only in the presence of a bacterial infection.

Patients with COVID-19 with moderate to severe course are prohibited from prescribing antibacterial drugs without reasonable clinical suspicion or confirmation of the presence of a bacterial infection, - adds the Deputy Minister.

Earlier, the ministry has already drawn attention to the problem of unrestricted use of antibiotics.

The head of the Ministry of Health, Maxim Stepanov, urged doctors not to "bake" patients with COVID-19 antibiotics unnecessarily.

At the same time, Chief Sanitary Doctor Viktor Lyashko said that in 2020, Ukrainians began to use some drugs 40 times more than before.

Lyashko also warned that reckless use of antibiotics could lead to a collapse in the development of medicine.
